    bohemian cardigans

As we approach the second half of August we start to think of fall fashion. A popular trend that will be here to stay will be the popular bohemian looks. My favourite would have to be the Bohemian dresses.

The bohemian looks have been around for over 200 years. They just create such a free and gorgeous trend on all body types and ages. Lots of the bohemian dresses have crush worthy patterns from floral fall looks to more simple patterns. Everyone wants to be really comfortable but look gorgeous and this bohemian look creates exactly that. Bohemian dresses look great with flats, heels, fall booties or tall boots. You may have to check many boutiques to find the right bohemian piece for you. In the Burlington Boutique and Oakville Boutiques, you can take a peak for more individual and unique styles.

I love the look of oversized boho sweaters and cardigans that allow women to be free and still  be warm and cozy.  The beauty of bohemian trends is that you are encouraged to layer pieces and who doesn’t love layering? It is the best part of fall. There are many different types of pieces you can layer from long cardigans to oversize shorter style sweaters and flyaways. Before we move onto hair and makeup, I would definitely recommend adding a hat to your bohemian look. You can add a nice floppy grey, beige or black hat. Lastly for fashion would be a great boho piece that will create envy would be a nice statement piece of jewelry, such as a handmade piece or a turquoise or wood necklace or ring.

Next we move onto hair with a bohemian inspired hairstyle by doing some nice long loose curls or you can try a messy braid to polish off the boho free spirited lifestyle.  These styles can work with all hair lengths and textures.

Lastly you can finish off with a nice simple make-up look that is really natural.

    Why We Love to Shop

    Why We Love to Shop

We are constantly exposed to flashy, loud, and repetitive advertisements that all try to persuade us to buy something.  Marketers research extensively on what, how, when, and where to deliver these messages and there is definite proof that ads work.  But why are we so gullible and malleable?  It all comes down to feeling.

We put up with so many daily annoyances and disappointments.  We get cut off, stood up, let down, talked over.  We rush to be late, we make a mess when we clean, we wait for the screen to load errors.  When will we ever finally book in time to stretch, lean back, and let go?

We need good feelings throughout the day to get us through the day.  We seek out "feel-good" moments to balance the "feel-bad" ones.  Daily routines like lining up for a specialty coffee in the morning, the luxury car wash option on your lunch, hitting the movie theatre with your beau after dinner -- we all look for positive ways to brighten our moods.

Shopping can be a great form of retail therapy.  When you fight to lose 15 pounds, how good does it feel to buy a new dress?  When you book a beach house getaway for the long weekend after nailing a big work project, how exciting is it to shop for brand new swim wear?  Or when the break up crying stops, how refreshing is it to buy a silky new set of bed sheets?   Buying something new can represent much more than the material thing that it is.  Something new can be a fresh start, full of exciting new possibilities and new hopes.  It can also offer closure on past negativity by refocusing your attention to the present and future.

Shopping can also replace poor habits with benign activities.  Over-eating, drinking, gambling, smoking, etc. are things people do to satiate their brain’s reward centres.  But the costs are extremely detrimental.  In moderation, regular retail therapy can provide you with a pleasurable, memorable experience and provide you with something of value, of use, and of beauty.  New clothes can also give you an air of confidence, better posture, and an esteemed following.  And we all know that appearances are the first impression.  So by putting down the fork, the glass, the dice, and the butt, and seeking out new apparel instead to gratify your senses, it can be a life-changer.

    Winter 2016 Style Trends

    1.  Fantastic Fur.  From snow white to fox fluff--we see it everywhere from the hoods of coats to the trim of boots.  And in between there are fur vests and fur scarves.  It’s hard to be a hermit when designers are adding a touch of soft, warm, fluffy fur to every layer this year.
    2. Volumes of Velvet.  Fall and winter has seen the approach of long flowing evening gowns in full velvet.  There is something drastically sophisticated about a woman adorned in full black velvet with a soft feminine silhouette.  The art of portraying this statement trend is choosing a style that shows some skin--sleeveless, backless, and plunging necklines offer a contrast to this thick and rich fabric.
    3.  Question of Quilt.  To quilt or not to quilt your outerwear this year?  That's a question we ask ourselves when thinking of our overall shape.  If you like it puffy, then quilt up!  But if you prefer your figure to show through all of your layers, or if a sleek shape suits your taste, then leave the quilted pieces to the status quo.
    4.  Breton Stripe Savvy.  A French fashion signature that originated from Naval uniforms.  Designer Coco Chanel first used the Breton stripe in her 1917 nautical line.  Lace & Envy has pulled this season's revamp of the colour block  Shrug ($40).  This print always pairs well with metallics!
    5.  Past Performance.  The eighties are written all over this season with faux leather, leg warmers, bright reds and blues, colour blocking, and the endless flow of palazzo pants revived in every print imaginable.
    6.  Dressed up Jersey Style.  A dress that is comfortable is a dream come true.  You look great, and you feel great.  Jersey dresses offer stretchy softness at pajama-level wearability.  Jersey dresses this year are an optimum style choice with many options such as cowl, turtle, scoop, boat, and v-neck.  And a hem from mini to midi to maxi.  Take that Jersey dress to town!
    7.  Light up the Night.  Sequins are a favourite feature on evening wear.  Notable designers Marc Jacobs, Nina Ricci, and Ralph Lauren featured full length glittery gowns on the runway in an attempt to outshine the dancefloor’s disco ball.  Look for sequins in poncho and shimmery evening bags to accessorize!

    Stay Trendy while Traveling

You want to maximize your outfit options while traveling abroad, but lugging your entire wardrobe with you just won’t work.  There are lots of ways to lighten the load and free up space for your trendy essentials.  To start with the obvious, leave behind the things you DON’T need.  The best way to narrow it down is to streamline your getaway gear.  Bring staple accessories that work for many outfits.  The bulk of your baggage can be an array of easy-to-pair neutrals.  You want to be able to mix-and-match pieces to maximize their wear, and add splashes of colour with scarves, belts, nail polish, the odd graphic tee--basically the smaller sized items.

How to pack more:  Roll your clothes!  Huge space-saver.  Miniaturize your beauty products!  Travel-sizes are wise choices, and you can find mini-cosmetic containers and spray bottles to portion out all the bulky potions and lotion bottles.  Use baggies and extra glasses cases to store smaller items like jewelry and chargers.  Choose your shoes wisely.  Depending on how many days you are traveling, pick the least number of pairs you can get away with (eg. white sandals for the beach, black heels for the evening, and a comfortable pair of flats for sightseeing and shopping).  Shoes are one of the most bulky items to pack, so if you can get away with fewer pairs, you’ll create more space for souvenirs!

What styles are best to bring?  If your voyage is at sea, there’s always an excuse to go nautical with navy, white, and gold.  If you're kicking up some beach sand, think billowy, light pastels to keep cool, and the essential floppy hat.  City touring should have you thinking comfort.  Elastic, spandex, and loose-fitting tops and a supportive-soles shoe will keep you light-stepping and focused on the amazing sights and sounds rather than wardrobe fixes.  The same goes for sightseeing expeditions.  Try a poncho or a cute cardigan for layering.  And leggings.  Lots of leggings!

The countdown is on…. to find the perfect New Year’s Eve dress!  Here are the trends to keep in mind

when dressing up to count down:

Backless - Full coverage in the front, a classy cut-out or deep V in the back.  This is a time-honoured style to set you apart in the New Year’s crowd.

Sequins - Make it sparkle!  Sequin bling is the perfect complement to your glass of champagne.  Choosing a sequinned dress for New Year’s highlights the excitement of the disco ball dropping at midnight, and will make you shine even brighter.

Lace - Pay homage to the prettiest trend of the year.  Lace can be sheer, laid over a solid layer, thin or thick, sequinned.  It can be a delicate accent or cover large sections.  A lace dress displays elegance and femininity for a casual or formal celebration.

Bodycon - This is the trend to choose if your night is out on the town and across the dance floor.  Stretchy but fitted it’s sure to match your dancing shoes.  The best thing about the bodycon style is its ability to flatter curves and slim a figure instantly.  So bodycon and boogie til it’s 2016!
